As we move further into autumn and begin to approach the Christmas period, there are encouraging signs of renewed activity across the property market — particularly here in the Northwest of England.
Following the traditionally quieter summer months, September has brought a noticeable increase in buyer activity. According to the latest Rightmove data, buyer demand across the Northwest increased by 4% during the first week of September, as people returned from their summer holidays and refocused on their moving plans. This formed part of a 5% increase in buyer demand across Great Britain, significantly above the typical 0.4% increase seen during the same period over the previous five years.
The Northwest Market
The latest Rightmove House Price Index also highlights some positive movement for the region. The average asking price in the Northwest increased by 0.5% in September, reaching £274,774. More importantly, average asking prices in the region are 1.7% higher than they were at the same time last year, demonstrating continued year-on-year growth.
The Northwest is also showing strong levels of successful sales compared with many other parts of the country. Rightmove reports that 71% of homes currently coming to market in the Northwest are finding a buyer, highlighting the continued level of demand across the region.
For sellers, this creates an encouraging backdrop as we enter one of the key periods of the property calendar.

Why Autumn Can Be a Great Time to Sell
Autumn has traditionally been an important period for people looking to make a move, as buyers return to their normal routines following the summer and begin thinking about their plans for the remainder of the year.
The latest increase in buyer demand suggests that this seasonal return is already beginning to happen. With the Northwest recording a 4% uplift in buyer demand, there are clear signs that buyers are becoming more active as we move into September and October.
For homeowners hoping to complete their move before Christmas, timing can be particularly important. Putting your property on the market during the autumn gives you the opportunity to reach buyers who are actively looking and gives the sales process time to progress through viewings, offers, conveyancing and completion ahead of the festive period.
Whether you’re looking to upsize, downsize, relocate or simply take the next step on your property journey, now could be an ideal time to start planning your move.
